Holston RiverNestled at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, East Hawkins County is located in northeastern Tennessee a short distance from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The county is divided into almost equal sections by the Holston River which traverses its entire length. Its topography ranges from relatively flat valleys dotted with farms and pasture land, to the high Clinch Mountain ridges of the Appalachians.

The East Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce was established in 1990 to service the rapidly growing needs of business and industry in East Hawkins County. This includes businesses in the cities of Church Hill, Mount Carmel and Surgoinsville, all of which are located entirely in Hawkins County; and businesses in the portion of Kingsport which is located in Hawkins County. The East Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce is committed to providing services to its member businesses and to working with its neighboring Chambers of Commerce (Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce and Rogersville Chamber of Commerce) in a cooperative spirit to foster regional growth.

Our mission is to provide Chamber members with services that add value to their businesses; and to provide information to prospective members which will attract them to become Chamber members.

Belinda & Rachael’s Consignments

When Karen Pennington opened her first consignment shop on Silver Lake Road in Church Hill about two and half years ago, she already knew how to sale furniture.

Her father, Charles Murr, owned Murr’s New and Used Furniture located on the corner of Market and Watauga Streets in Johnson City for 30 years.

“He taught me everything I know,” Karen said. “It’s in my blood. I just want to follow in his footsteps.”

Growing up in Jonesborough, Pennington has since moved to the East Hawkins County area and opened up Belinda & Rachael’s Consignments, now located at 424 Main Street in Mt. Carmel. The shop is named after Pennington’s two daughters, 20-year-old Belinda and 27-year-old Rachael. Karen’s husband Chuck Pennington is also involved in the business, making it a true family affair.

Belinda & Rachael’s Consignments sell new and used jewelry, purses, plus size clothing, furniture and home décor. They accept items during business hours –Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Karen and Chuck will go on location to look at furniture by appointment and the consignment shop also buys scrap gold.

Debit and credit cards are accepted and lay away plans are available. Belinda & Rachael’s is also a pay center, meaning customers may come there to pay power, water, cable and satellite bills.

The consignment shop is constantly getting new merchandise, so make sure to check in often for the best deals. For more information, contact Karen Pennington at (423) 357-4032.
